RAISING BABY CHICKS 3 WEEKS OLD
First time outside this spring, we put the chicks outside in a big cage, inside the chicken coop run. They are safe inside their cage, and have the protection of the electric mesh fence to keep predators away.
Daisy and I are both doing yard work close by the coop. We’re close enough to look in on them frequently and see If any trouble pops up. We’ll be nearby to help out the chicks.
Chicks are 3 weeks old. I feel these chicks are too little to be left out at night in the cold. They can’t stay warm enough alone. I can set up a heat lamp, but for now the tub inside is best for these girls another week. Then we will see how they are doing. Even with the heat lamp…
Daisy is a huge help to round up the chicks in the cage. Being outside the cage, Daisy knows to push the chicks towards me so that I can catch them.
I try to catch the first two chicks and last two chicks together, so that one chick isn’t left alone and frightened.
The chicks had an exciting day outside, and seemed to appreciate being back inside their warm tub and warm up a little under the heat lamp.
