Winter Chicken Coop Tour
Chickens don't usually like snow. My hens will stay in well maintained paths and don't typically venture off trail unless they are spooked.
We thought you might like to see how my chickens are doing in sub freezing conditions, and how I feed and water them through the winter.
Daisy and I wake up early and we need to feed and water the outside animals. When the weather is 12 F degrees there is no liquid water anywhere for the animals. More important than bringing them food, is the water. Do your very best to bring your outside animals, water in the freezing cold weather.
I carry warm water to my critters on cold mornings like this in a clean milk jug, and I pour the chicken's water into little metal pans.
I have large feed containers that I fill about one day a week.
Our nesting boxes are up off the floor. The eggs are less likely to freeze if they are above the ground. To continue to have lots of fresh eggs from my hens, I'm sure to get my hens lots of liquid water during these very very cold days & nights.
I have 1 inch insulated board covering most of the coup to help keep the inside the coop warmer.
The coop is a little dusty this time of the year. When the weather warms up, I'll be able to do a little spring cleaning.
I hope this helps you all with your coops and hens in this very cold weather.
Stay Well.
